Meet Butterfly.
Butterfly had a very bad day the day she decided to eat a lily in her foster home. Despite precautions, she was able to consume some of this highly toxic plant and began having episodes of vomiting. The minute her foster mom realized what had happened, she rushed her to the emergency clinic for immediate care.
Lilies can cause acute kidney failure in a cat and are even more dangerous to a small kitten, so the vets at the clinic jumped into action. An IV was inserted so that they could flush the toxins from her system in a controlled way and bloodwork was run to check her kidney values. She was kept at the emergency clinic for 48 hours of fluids, regular bloodwork checks, and monitoring.
Fortunately, her vomiting resolved after the first 24 hours, although she began to have diarrhea so they added an antibiotic to her care. The next day everything was improved - her stools were formed, her bloodwork and kidney values looked normal, and she was much brighter and more vocal and she (this is a quote from the emergency clinic notes) “screams in her cage until you give her attention". In other words, she was back to being a normal kitten again!
She was discharged to a medical foster where she continued to receive care and monitoring. After finishing out her diarrhea meds she was made available for adoption!
Her total bill was $899.30
